After suffering a family tragedy, Mack Phillips

[Sam Worthington] spirals into a deep depression, “the great sadness,” that isolates him from his family and his closest friend Willie [Tim McGraw] and causes him to question his innermost fundamental beliefs. Facing a crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter urging him to an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness.

Despite his doubts, Mack journeys to the shack and encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa [Octavia Spencer]. Through this meeting, Mack finds important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever.

WATERLOO, ON (December 9, 2015) – The Young Messiah presents a fascinating, extra-Biblical, yet historically accurate, account of what could have occurred during Jesus’ childhood, encouraging conversations and deep questions, ultimately posing the question “Was Jesus, as He grew in wisdom and stature, aware of his own divinity?” With Canadian distribution by Entertainment One (eOne), the much-anticipated film will open in theatres across Canada in the lead-up to Easter, on March 11, 2016.

How do you explain the ways of the world to the Creator of the world? How do you teach the Teacher? How do you help the Saviour who came to Save you? When the mystery of Jesus’ divinity begins to unfold during His childhood, He turns to His parents for guidance. But Mary and Joseph, in an effort to protect their child, are afraid to reveal all they know. Based on the novel Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt by Anne Rice, The Young Messiah follows the Messiah as He and His family take the dangerous journey from Egypt to Nazareth, and on to Jerusalem, where His true identity and profound destiny will be fulfilled.

The Young Messiah stars Sean Bean (THE MARTIAN, GAME OF THRONES, THE LORD OF THE RINGS), Adam Greaves-Neal, David Bradley, Lee Boardman, Jonathan Bailey, and David Burke. The film is directed by award-winning writer/director, Cyrus Nowrasteh. Ocean Blue Entertainment, in conjunction with CJ Entertainment and East West Bank, is financing the project. The Young Messiah is produced by 1492 Pictures’ Chris Columbus and Michael Barnathan, Mark Radcliffe, Ocean Blue’s Tracy Price, and CJ’s Mark Shaw.
