Crossroads Media Challenges Canadian Faith Community to Act on Public Health Emergency
Crossroads Christian Communications to host opioid crisis education and prayer event on June 18
WATERLOO – May 27, 2019 – Faithful Canadians are being urged by Crossroads to learn, pray and take action on the nation’s mounting opioid crisis and collaborate on God-sized solutions. With more than 10,300 deaths in less than two years across the country, opioid overdoses are quickly becoming the leading cause of death among Canadians ages 30-39, devastating families and communities. Crossroads advocates that the growing number of opioid overdoses has become a Canadian public health emergency that must be thoughtfully and intentionally addressed by faith communities. As a response, they are hosting Canada Cares: Getting Connected on the Opioid Crisis – a free in-studio and livestream event on June 18, 2019.
Canada Cares will be hosted by Lorna Dueck, CEO of Crossroads, YES TV and Context: Beyond the Headlines with guest Stewart Cameron, Recovery Advocate. Participants are invited to join in an evening of education, compassion and prayer as they commit to a deeper understanding of God’s heart for this crisis in our nation. Guests will hear stories from families and individuals who have been personally impacted by the growing opioid crisis and learn from those on the frontlines providing care.
“The opioid crisis in our country and those who work in it requires prayer and action from Canada’s faith community,” explains Lorna Dueck, CEO, Crossroads and YES TV. “It’s our hope that this event will unite our nation as we gather to learn, pray and lean into God’s wisdom. Ministry leaders, churches and individuals will be equipped with information, stories and resources to help bring about God-sized solutions for this crisis.”
