Faith-Based Refugee-Support Organizations Enthusiastic About New Release From Affirm Films
WATERLOO— August 3rd, 2017— Non-profit, faith-based organizations are eagerly anticipating the August 25th release of Affirm Films’ new movie, ALL SAINTS. The film, based on a true story, follows Michael Spurlock (John Corbett) who, after trading in his corporate sales career to become a pastor, takes on his first assignment at All Saints, a quaint country church with only a dozen members.
But this pastoral call is unique; his assignment is to close the doors of the struggling church for good and sell its prime real estate. However, when the church hesitantly begins welcoming Karen (kuh-REN) refugees from Burma—former farmers striving for a fresh start in America—Michael feels called to an improbable new mission. Toiling alongside the Karen people, the congregation attempts to turn their fertile land into a working farm to pay the church’s bills and feed its newest people.
“Recognizing that church-based refugee engagement is a topic near to the hearts of Canadians, we felt it was crucial to equip organizations with a tool like ALL SAINTS,” says Ellen Graf-Martin, President at Graf-Martin Communications. “It is hard not to be moved to compassion and action when faced with a true-to-life story like that of the Karen people. These stories are happening all around us, and we simply need eyes to see them.”
Preparing for the ALL SAINTS Canadian launch at the end of August, Sony Pictures Releasing Canada, in coordination with Graf-Martin Communications, has seen ten impactful organizations from across Canada come alongside as ministry partners. These partners range in size, Christian affiliation, organizational structure, and cause, with most focusing on refugee support. Confirmed partners include:
- Afghan Women’s Organization
- A Rocha Canada
- FaithLife Financial
- Humanity First Canada
- Joy 1250
- Mennonite Central Committee Canada
- Mennonite Coalition for Refugee Support
- The Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton
- The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund
- Welcome Home Refugee House
ALL SAINTS is directed by Steve Gomer (“Blue Bloods”, “Private Practice”), and also stars Barry Corbin (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, “One Tree Hill”), David Keith (AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, BEHIND ENEMY LINES), comedian Chonda Pierce, and Nelson Lee (“Law & Order”) with a screenplay by Steve Armour (LOSING GRACIE). Sony Pictures Releasing Canada will be releasing ALL SAINTS in Canada on August 25th, 2017.
