Take Your Best Shot

This summer, through the pages of Take Your Best Shot, I was introduced to a remarkable teenager – one who has done more in his fifteen years than many do in a full lifetime.
At nine years of age Austin Gutwein’s heart was pierced by the story of a young African girl, and he began to dream big. Now, six years later, Austin’s dream has led him to raise over a million dollars to build a school and medical clinic in Zambia – using a basketball and a hoop, and a whole lot of God-fueled ambition. His organization, Hoops of Hope, is doing amazing things. Check out the video clips of Austin on YouTube. Great stuff is happening!
Knowing that this was a message that deserved sharing, I sent out review copies of Austin’s book to a number of people involved with youth work across Canada. Here are some of their thoughts:
An Alberta Youth Ministry Director says “My son who is 12 just finished reading the book and was quite impacted by his story. I also some youtube video’s on him and thought he was a pretty good communicator for being so young….thanks for passing this book along!!”
The Youth Leadership Program Director at Atlantic Baptist University said “my daughter is reading it and loves it, so I hope to get to it soon. It sounds exciting what God is doing with this book and author.”
And my favourite, from an Ontario blogger “The story itself is worth the price of the book, but the short devotionals and Take Action sections at the end of each chapter give teens a Biblical perspective on WHY they need to do something about the poor and HOW they can start to do it.”
There will be more reviews to come, but most importantly, I can’t wait to see the impact that Austin’s book has on teens and kids who choose to step out and do something bigger than themselves.
