Love Does Contest: Follow-Up
July 24, 2012 • No comments

In celebration of our author, Bob Goff and his new book, Love Does, this May, Graf-Martin Communications Inc. in partnership with Thomas Nelson Publishers ran a social media contest through our blog.
We asked participants to send us an example of how love in action has changed their lives OR to read a chapter of Love Does and submit their feedback to us for a chance to win $250 to use towards a Canadian adventure excursion of their choice and a copy of Bob’s book.
This was one of our most popular contests, and we got an amazing response from our readers. After several weeks, we announced our winner was Trisha from Ottawa, Ontario!
We gave all participants some adventure excursion recommendations however, Trisha faced several challenges when it came to deciding how she and her family would spend the $250. She has two young children and doesn’t have regular access to a vehicle. Instead of getting discouraged, Trisha got creative. She came up with the idea to purchase a GPS unit so that she and her family could go geocaching together.
We absolutely loved her idea! It’s an activity that can be done with the whole family, anywhere in the city you’re from and is a prize that can be used all year long, and would make the excursions a more normal occurrence instead of a one-time occurrence.
If you’re unfamiliar with geocaching, it’s a “real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache, or treasure hidden at that location.”
The rules for geocaching are simple:
1) If you find a treasure from the cache, you must replace it with something of equal or greater value
2) You can’t be seen by non-geocachers. If you do, the cache’s safety will be compromised
3) Sign the log book in the cache
4) Record your find on www.geocaching.com
After some research, Trisha decided that the Magellan eXplorist 310 was the best GPS for her family’s geocaching adventure. On their three-day geocaching adventure Trisha and her family hunted for treasure everywhere from a nearby playground to a ravine. She documented her three-day geocaching adventure, ending with a treat at McDonald’s on her personal blog, so be sure to check that out for more details and pictures.

Stay tuned for more contests, featured here, on our blog.
P.S- If you haven’t read Love Does yet, you can find it at your local Christian retailer or Amazon.ca. It’s a great summer read and some of our Canadian bloggers have posted some rave reviews!
