Inside The Acorn: Week 2

Inside The Acorn: Week 2 (May 7- May 11)
-editor’s note: some of this information is still historical, while we play catch-up

This marks my first full week at Graf-Martin Communications.

Thanks to a detailed staff meeting on Monday, I have a better understanding of the various Thomas Nelson projects we’re currently working on and seriously, we get to work on some pretty cool projects.

For starters; we’re managing Canadian publicity for renowned author, Max Lucado and his newest book; Grace as well as Jennie Allen’s newest study; Anything. We’re also doing Canadian publicity for the I Am Second movement, and book by Dave Sterrett and Doug Bender, a new Bible translation called The Voice and Bob Goff’s newest book Love Does.

After getting a firmer grasp on some of the current projects I was able to help Mel and Julie with some overflow. For the most part, this involved pitching some of these great titles to various Christian radio stations and preparing book synopses to be sent to several smaller publications.

I also started learning a lot about eBooks, being pulled in on a project launching Christian eBooks across Canada with FDI Digital. It even encouraged me to buy my mom an e-reader for Mother’s Day!
My favorite project this week has been working with Tim on developing a social media contest for Bob Goff’s Love Does. In exchange for sharing an example of love in action in their lives, contestants will be entered for a chance to win a copy of the book and $250 to go towards a Canadian adventure excursion of their choice! Upon doing some research on prizes, we came across some pretty strange options- everything from camping over night with horses to staying at an anonymous Bed and Breakfast featuring a rustic hot tub!  The book is amazing. Bob has led such an interesting life, and credits it to letting love do things in his life and relationships. Just to paint a small picture of Bob, he pursued his wife for three years before she agreed to date him! Talk about dedication.

In more important news, I also completed my obligatory “intern-like” duty…except I don’t think it really counts considering I suggested it myself. Friday was a gorgeous day, perfect for ice cream, thank goodness McDonalds is only a few minutes away and has a new Drumstick Mcflurry!
