How to Send Email

Seth Godin’s blog frequently provides me with excellent information, and I loved this recent post on email communication.
Please, if you live and work in our new world, take these tips to heart. If you’re going to do your job, do it well.
Early on, I was pushed and pressured to generate PR for a title that simply wasn’t getting noticed. Due to desperation and pure ignorance, I violated some of these rules. In the end, the book still didn’t get noticed, and I’m sure that my emails and messages were immediately transferred to an editor or producer’s deleted files. When I followed these rules, and truly had a great product or person to present, the editor or producer did notice.
Interestingly, I’ve had two major hits in the past month that were forwarded on to a producer including this line: Good possibility here huh? Not a form letter either…Wanna get back to her? It was obviously well worth my while to treat this producer with respect, composing a real letter, honoring their time to read the message, and writing to them as if a real person would be reading the email.
